Career Services Autumn Programme of Events

On September 15th we launched our new website here at the Careers Service.  We hope you like the new look and layout and we welcome any comments you may have (good or bad)!

We've tried to structure the website in a way which is easier to navigate - and you will be able to find our complete Autumn Programme of Events in one area.

This year we are providing an extensive programme of events to assist with all areas of career planning and job hunting, and a comprehensive series of workshops on CV and Interview Skills. We have even re-branded ourselves to "Career Services" which incorporates the bigger picture of what we can offer to our students, graduates and employers.

A handy downloadable brochure of events will be available soon on the site but in the meantime you can print a Microsoft Word table of events in chronological order -Events Handout (16kB) .

Milkrounds (or Employer Presentations) are presentations given on campus by employers who advertise their company, their opportunities and who are recruiting students (usually final years and interns). Click here for the list of Milkrounds.

This year, the Careers Service are offering a series of employer talks, called "Ask the Experts" You will be given the chance to ask the employers in your chosen area questions which you may not otherwise have an opportunity to ask. Insider Insights is another new exciting series of events offered by the Careers Service. Get an insight into a career that you are considering, and find out how others have made it. Click here for the list of "Insider Insights".

We are also offering you the chance to find out what to do next. Are you thinking about your career after your degree? Don't know what to do next? This is your chance to find out. Click here for our series of "Your degree, what next?"

There will be a Postgrad Study in the USA seminar on Wednesday Oct 5th, G2 Kane Building, 5.00-6.30pm. Representatives from the International Education Office, the Fulbright Commission, a Member of Staff from UCC will talk on the application process, funding/scholarships available. Students will also share their experiences of studying in the US.

Workplace Skills (part of the Career Matters talks) - this series of events will help prepare you for the world of work. The talks will include sessions such as Business Awareness, Creative Problem Solving, and your other skills such as Negotiation, Teamwork, and Communication. JOB HUNTING EVENTS IN AUTUMN

Welcome back everyone to the new year at college! A special mention to those
of you entering your final year. You've just figured out your new lecture timetable, your boss from your summer job wants you to work extra hours at the weekends (and in this climate who can refuse?), and now we come along telling you about all the job hunting seminars we offer to help you stand out from the crowd in what is currently an employers market. To make life easier for you we’ve repeated the talks on different days and scheduled them for lunchtimes and evenings, so if you’re worried about the star quality of your CV or your stage presence at interview make sure to try and catch some of the talks on offer.

For those of you who have yet to decide what broad career area interests you there are talks spotlighting different Industry sectors such as “Your science degree what next?” or “Careers in Management and Marketing” taking place in late October, early November and these are open to all years.

And finally for those of you who have narrowed down your career choice already, don’t miss the Milkround - where the top Graduate Employers visit campus at 6pm most evenings throughout October and November to explain why you should apply to work for them. Despite the downturn these firms are still hiring and have genuine vacancies on offer coupled with an excellent 1-2 year training scheme. There’s an impressive list from the Big 4 Accountancy firms, to Dairygold, Abbot, William Fry Solicitors and Sotheby’s to name but a few booked in so why not sign up to our twitter page for daily reminders and alerts of what’s on that day
